Staff at Dallas Zoo in Texas, US has recently announced that the facility is now home to an adorable baby chimpanzee. Information shared with the public says that the baby primate was born to mom Ramona this past January 26.

By the looks of it, Ramona had just one other baby before, so one cannot say that it is a very experienced mother. However, caretakers say that it is doing a great job looking after the zoo's new arrival.

“Ramona is taking exceptionally good care of the new baby, as she did with Kona in 2009,” mammal curator Keith Zdrojewski says, as cited by Zoo Borns. Furthermore, “We have a healthy, vibrant troop of chimpanzees that continues to grow here at the Dallas Zoo.”

For the time being, zoo employees and vets are unable to say whether the baby chimpanzee is a boy or a girl. Hence, they haven't yet settled on a name for it.

However, Dallas Zoo employees expect that, as soon as the tiny creature undergoes its first routine health exam, they will have as answer to this most pressing question.

Commenting on the birth of this baby chimpanzee, Lynn Kramer, vice president of animal operations and welfare at the Dallas Zoo, said that, “This new addition is a great success for the troop and our zoo.”
