14 DAY TRIAL // A baby boy who was buried alive in a cemetery by his own parents was rescued after a woman happened to pass by and heard his cries. He was put in the ground on April 26 and survived 8 days in a cardboard box before he was finally found.
The incident happened in China's Guangxi region, SCMP tells us. Not long after the baby was found and saved, authorities tracked down his family.
The baby's parents buried him hoping to be rid of him
When confronted, his parents admitted to having buried him themselves. They said that, on April 24, they abandoned him in the cemetery where he was discovered. A couple of days later, they returned, dug a hole in the ground and put the box in it.
By the looks of it, the baby was abandoned by his family because he was born with a malformation. Thus, the child is understood to have a cleft lip.
It goes without saying that, had the baby's cries not been heard by the woman who helped rescue him, he would not have survived for much longer in the box he had been left in. Not when the box had a pretty thick layer of earth resting on top of it.
The boy survived because air and rainwater reached him
According to the medical experts who examined the baby shortly after his rescue, the young boy only survived in the cardboard box in which he was buried by his family because, while in the ground, both rainwater and air could reach him.
Thus, it is understood that the box was put in the ground in such a way that rainwater and air could still circulate through it. Even so, information shared with the public says that, when found, the baby coughed out some dirt.
Despite having been buried alive, the baby boy is in good health condition. He had to be kept in an incubator for a few days, but the doctors in charge of looking after him say that he did not suffer any major injuries and should recover just fine.
