New York City's Staten Island Zoo is now home to a baby anteater whose tongue is almost as long as the rest of its body.

The creature was born at this facility this past January 12, Zoo Borns reports. Its mom is named DJ, and its father is known to friends as EJ.

Probably in order to carry on the family tradition of having a short and simple monicker, the tiny anteater has been named MJ.

Vets have had the chance to examine it, and say that it is a male. They further detail that the baby anteater is in perfectly good health, and that its mother is doing a great job looking after it.

The genus of anteaters to which this little fellow belongs is known to the scientific community as tamandua.

The baby anteater's relatives in the wild can be found in Central and South America. They chiefly feast on ants and termites, and rely on their very long tongues to secure their next meal.
