14 DAY TRIAL // This past February 9, a total of 9 Aldabra giant tortoises emerged from their eggs at Tulsa Zoo in Oklahoma, US.
Despite their name, these baby tortoises are incredibly small. In fact, as shown in the picture above, they have a long way to go until they are at least as big as their mom's head. Zoo Borns tells us that, at birth, the baby reptiles weighed about 50 grams (1.76 ounces) each.
Once they reach adulthood, the females will tip the scale at about 175 pounds (roughly 79 kilograms). The males, on the other hand, will probably weigh some 400 pounds (approximately 181 kilograms).
Unlike newborns belonging to other species, which need to spend some time bonding with their family before they make their public debut, these giant tortoises are already on display.
By the looks of it, they don't mind being in the spotlight, and none of them has until now attempted to run and hide from its rather annoying fans.
Even if it did, it's doubtful that it would manage to get away from zoo visitors as fast as it would like to.
