The cybercriminals haven't taken the time to update their phishing page

BT customers should be on the lookout for fake emails that attempt to trick them into handing over their account credentials.

Cybercriminals have started sending out bogus notifications entitled “Update your@bt.” The messages read something like this:

“BT Mail has upgraded its security level to prevent Hackers and spy wares from getting into your Mail box in order to complete this security update, We encourage you to Click Here and login to upgrade your account security. Copyright 2014 Yahoo! Inc. All rights reserve.”

The links from these emails point to a BT Yahoo! phishing page where users are instructed to enter their email addresses and passwords. After the information is handed over, victims are redirected to the legitimate Yahoo login page.

As you can see, the phishing emails are updated for 2014. However, the phishing page is not (see screenshot).

On the legitimate login page, BT is informing customers that BT Yahoo is moving to BT Mail. BT Yahoo email customers are being notified of the move from January 2014.

If you’re a victim of this phishing scam, change your passwords immediately.
