14 DAY TRIAL // While most phone manufacturers out there tend to put an emphasis on their handsets’ frontal camera, there are a few who don’t neglect the capabilities of the selfie-centric snapper either.
After all, selfie-taking has become one of the activities we constantly engage in these days. BLU is a little-known US phone maker that has just launched a device dedicated to people who love to self-immortalize their appearance.
The handset has been aptly called Selfie and takes advantage of a 13MP selfie camera with a Sony IMX135 sensor.
The main camera bundles the same type of shooter with the addition that users can record HD video at 1080p @ 30fps. Furthermore, there’s an 88-degree wide angle present to help you expand the range of possibilities for the perfect shot.
As for the selfie-centric camera, it has been designed to nestle a “glam flash” meant to output the most flattering lighting possible in a low-lit club for a no-filter selfie.
BLU bundles some photo-altering software too
In case you’re not still satisfied with the outcome and think your face might need a retouch or two, BLU has bundled the Final Touch app which adds a bunch of effects that allow you to have smoother and brighter skin, larger eyes, and even a thinner face.
But the BLU Selfie smartphone is more than a selfie-producing machine. The handset arrives with a 4.7-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and can deliver quality audio via its Wolfson WM8918 audio chip.
Under the hood lies an octa-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.7GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 64GB via microSD card). This is a decent processor which should allow users to do what any smartphone owner does, access apps and games.
One word of warning though, the BLU Selfie smartphone does not come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box; instead, it takes advantage of Android 4.4 KitKat. There’s no word on whether BLU plans to update the phone in the near future or not, but we’re pretty skeptical this will happen.
The handset is currently up for grabs, in its unlocked state, from Amazon for $249 / €227 a pop.
