The who’s who in film gather in London for awards gala

The British Academy Film Awards 2014 took place last night in London, bringing together in the same place some of the biggest, most commercially and critically successful stars of today’s showbiz. As was to be expected, some fun moments were also included.

You will find some of them in the GIFs below, just in case you missed the live ceremony.

If you did, I should note that “Gravity,” directed by Alfonso Cuaron with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as leads, was the biggest surprise of the night, taking home 6 different awards, including for Best Director.

However, it didn’t win Best Film: that BAFTA went to “12 Years a Slave,” directed by Steve McQueen and produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B production house.

Dame Helen Mirren was honored with the Fellowship BAFTA and delivered a speech so touching that it didn’t leave a single dry eye in the house. Another emotional moment was when Cate Blanchett accepted her Best Leading Actress award and dedicated the win to her late friend, Sir Philip Seymour Hoffman.
