Cate Blanchett skipped a few scheduled public appearances after Sir Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death because, her publicist explained, they were good friends and she couldn’t deal with questions on his passing just yet.

She came out at the British Academy Film Awards 2014 last night in London and, as a tribute to her late friend, she dedicated her win – and the second half of her speech – to him. Video of the acceptance speech is embedded above.

Blanchett won for her role in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine,” in which she plays a very rich woman who wakes up one day to find out that her husband had lost all their money. After a mental breakdown, she moves in with her sister while she’s trying to get back on her feet.

The performance was praised by critics and fans alike and, this awards season, Cate is adding more items to her already impressive collection of accolades.

Come March 2, 2014, we’ll see if she gets to add an Oscar there as well.
