Heroes unleashed in an underground battle

Azeroth Goldrush is a Hero Arena map for the Warcraft 3 expansion pack. The Frozen Throne modified it so that it would offer a more competitive team play. The map includes many custom-made heroes with exciting new spells that are unlike any other ones. Gamers can choose to play the title in three styles: conquest, expansion, or deathmatch.

The legends talk about a hidden cavern that lies beneath the highlands of Arathi. It is said that it’s home to five Nar'shadoks (Gold Shrines). The purpose of each team is to capture these Gold Shrines. Different game modes will serve different focuses and variants of making use of these Gold Shrines.

The map was first developed by DoOs_101 that made the original versions of Goldrush. Then, it was handed to the Jade Wars developing team Azeroth Goldrush, which now focuses on a more competitive, entertaining strategy. The developers hopes that, in the long run, the map will compete with the most frequently played ones from Warcraft: DotA Allstars.

Azeroth Goldrush is an altered Hero Arena style map. It has a small dimension, measuring 98x98. The maximum number of players supported on the map is 10 (therefore 5 players on each team). It is recommended that you play this map with at least 3 v 3 players, and, as a must, the teams must be even.

The title starts by allowing each gamer to choose a hero from 3 different taverns: Booty Bay Inn (8 heroes), Three Moon’s Tavern (11 heroes), and Barney’s Tavern (11 heroes). Each one has their unique skills, as well as different levels of strength, weaknesses, and attributes. The success of one team is mainly determined  by the cooperation among its the players. Heroes can be leveled-up to a maximum of 16, while the best way to do this is to fight the opposite team.

Defense towers can be built and additional units can be hired, and all this has one main purpose: to protect your base and the conquered Gold Mines. These Gold Mines/Shrines will appear like a magical box that glows with a yellow light. Heroes have the option to interact with them by using an ability called Capture (Hotkey: Q), which all of them possess.

The map has 3 different modes:

Conquest (-co): each of the two teams gets 200 force points. The first team that causes the opposing one to lose their force points to 0 will win.

Expansion (-ex): each of the two teams must conquer all five gold mines/gold shrines that exist on the map. If a team conquers all of them, there will be a 5-minute period of time in which the opposing one has to regain 1 gold mine, or else it will lose.

Deathmatch (–dm): each of the two teams will start with a 0 score. The first one that reaches the maximum (30) score wins the game. A team gains a score every time an enemy hero is killed, or 3 score points when it captures a gold mine.

A unique feature of the map is the online ranking system. It gathers scores from the account data, and sorts the accounts in a descending order. So, every time you play Azeroth Goldrush, your battle.net account that is used for this purpose will gain reputation. This reputation will be stored inside a unique encryption code that is id authenticated. To join the online rankings, you will need to set up an account.

Finally, maybe this map isn’t as famous as DotA, but its special online ranking system and the fact that its developer is doing its best at delivering a new and exciting game that we all can play makes it a choice worth considering.
