Axis made good on its specialty and created a pair of network cameras that are supported by the industry's largest base of video management software, not to mention adapted for a wide variety of uses.

Cameras come in many forms, as well as target market segments, and Axis decided to cater to the needs of the surveillance industry, among other things.

The method it chose was the invention of two network cameras, bearing the names of AXIS Q1604 and AXIS Q1604-E.

The former is for indoor scenarios, while the latter is made for outdoor installments.

“Adapted for wide dynamic range scenarios, Axis’ exceptional ‘dynamic capture’ capability allows these cameras to handle blinding light and to provide superb images in difficult lighting conditions,” says Erik Frännlid, director of Product Management, Axis Communications.

“AXIS Q1604/-E Network Cameras provide clear images even under backlight conditions where intensity of illumination can vary greatly.”

They both come with support for 1MP / HDTV 720p resolution image scanning and, thus, are perfect for monitoring buildings with large windows, entrances, tunnel passages, etc.

As such, they might just get orders on the part of government and city surveillance applications, as well as airports and the like.

Meanwhile, the cameras can handle with multiple, individually configurable H.264 and Motion JPEG video streams, plus two-way audio and functionality during both day and night times.

Furthermore, Axis threw in varifocal lens and remote back focus support for the Axis Application Development Partner Program and AXIS Camera Station (provide access to video management software).

The AXIS Q1604-E is IP66- and NEMA 4X-rated and withstands temperatures of -40 °C to 50°C (-40 °F to 122 °F) ( this is the main perk, compared to the Q1604).

Finally, it has a wall mount bracket and a sunshield, as well as weather protection (dust, rain, snow scorching heats).

Unfortunately, prices were not revealed, so prospective customers have to wait until Q4, when sales are set to start.
