Axiotron, the company behind some cool notebook mods, announced that it would be returning to the Macworld Expo for the third year in a row. At the company’s booth, Axiotron will showcase the improved and enhanced Modbook – a modified Apple MacBook that lacks a keyboard in favor of touchscreen functionality.

The new Mac tablets are to be displayed today at the Axiotron booth (#502). Axiotron CEO Andreas E. Haas will introduce visitors to artists, designers, photographers, and software representatives, all of which will highlight the Modbook’s enhancements, including hardware and software changes.

Speaking of which, the Modbook now incorporates Axiotron’s QuadCoat, a liquid metallic coating for the lightweight magnesium top shell. This, in addition to other changes, decreases the weight of the highly portable Modbook to only 5.3 pounds.

The Modbook lets users draw and write directly on the screen, by seamlessly integrating the company’s technology with a Wacom Penabled digitizer and an Apple MacBook computer. The product features a collection of hardware and software changes impacting almost every one of its aspects. The manufacturer has upgraded the Modbook’s hardware controller board to improve a slew of processes such as sleep, battery, radio frequency even, as well as system performance.

In addition, Axiotron will introduce Quickscript. Co-developed with Vision Objects, Quickscript is a new handwriting recognition software specifically written for the Modbook. The company is also partnering with big names including Adobe, Microsoft, Autodesk, SmileOnMyMac, Chromatic Bytes, MindMeister, Circus Ponies, Edge Health Solutions, and AssistiveWare, to showcase the Modbook’s new features, complete with hands-on sessions.

“We are very excited to be back at Macworld. Our booth is designed to be highly interactive, informative and fun for visitors,” Mr. Haas said. “It is especially exciting this year, since we will have the opportunity to present some of the new technologies our team has been working on.”

Axiotron will feature various promotions during the expo, while visitors will have the chance to win many prizes, including free software and, of course, a brand new Modbook. You can visit the company's booth between Tuesday, January 6, and Friday, January 9th, 2009, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
