Axiomtek just announced the launch of a new EPIC form factor computer mainboard that is well suited for manufacturing computing systems that have to be small and operate with a light energy footprint. The single board computer, SBC for short, from Axiomtek is designed to be able to house mobile Intel central processing units from the Core 2 Duo, Core Duo and Core Solo product lines that are using the 533Mhz or the 667Mhz frontside bus.

The Axiomtek single board computer is built around the Intel mobile 945GME chipset that is paired with the ICH7M Express chip and thanks to the presence of the integrated graphics solution it provides users with a complete and functional unit without the need to add expansion cards in order to obtain basic functionality.

Because of the increased bandwidth available to a computer system centered around the new Axiomtek motherboard, it would be well suited for many embedded applications like digital signage appliance (DSA), DVR, POS and gaming solution markets, according to the manufacturing company, that was cited by the news site digitimes.

Called the EP830, the new Axiomtek motherboard for embedded solutions supports multiple video connecting options like the DV-I interface as well as a 24-bit single- or dual-channel LVDS and in order to complete the connectivity side, a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports is also present. In order to be able to deliver a high speed connection, the two network ports are backed up by the PCI Express x1 system bus and so they support the full speed 1000 Base-T protocol.

Among other important features that can be found on the Axiomtek motherboard there are the Trusted Platform Module 1.2, RAID capabilities and the EPIC Express system interface that is used for expansion purposes. Two high speed FireWire ports are also present as well as four USB 2.0 connectors, so the Axiomtek mainboard will be able to connect with all popular peripherals that are in use today, while the presence of eight Digital I/O and four COM ports as well as the integrated CompactFlash slot allows it to interact with a number of specialized and less well-known hardware parts.
