Luckily, neither the driver nor the passenger was in any way harmed

When driving on a busy highway, the only things one expects to see hitting their windshield are poor, defenseless flies and other critters that haven't yet learned to keep away from traffic.

Still, it looks like, every once in a while, downright bizarre things can appear seemingly out of nowhere and try to work their way inside a car. Things like axes, for example.

Not to beat about the bush, Sky News tell us that, a couple of days ago, two folks driving down a highway in the state of Massachusetts in the US had the surprise of a lifetime when an axe smashed into their windshield.

The axe, a photo of which is available next to this piece of news, went half-way through the glass. Luckily, neither the driver nor the other person in the vehicle was in any way injured.

“These motorists, whom we are not identifying, endured a very frightening moment shortly before 11 a.m. today as they were driving on Route 95 southbound in Topsfield,” the Massachusetts State Police writes in the photo's description on Facebook.

“Thankfully, the axe only went halfway through the windshield. The passenger who is partially seen in the photo was shaken up (who wouldn't be?) but not injured,” the description goes on to say.

Investigations revealed that the axe came from a truck. The man driving this truck, whose duty it was to secure the axe before taking to the road, was fined $200 (€150) in the aftermath of this incident.

Officers with the Massachusetts State Police say that, had the car that got hit by the axe been going any faster, the tool might have entirely gone through the glass. In this case, somebody would have surely been injured.
