Gist LLC admits that it’s basically just a motivator at best

A company going by the name of Gist LLC has come up with an app that uses HealthKit information, or a simple Q&A, to determine your expiration date. The company admits it cannot determine exactly when you’ll die with 100% accuracy, but that the app should make for a good motivator to live a healthier life nonetheless.

Few people will actually have not problem knowing when they’ll eventually drop dead, but even those who are afraid of knowing might give this app a swing out of curiosity. Gist certainly thinks everyone’s entitled to know. As long as the forecast is at least somewhat on par with your biological clock, Deadline should make for a great motivator to start leading a healthier life.

“You're going to die. Sorry, we all do eventually”

That’s the message sent out by Gist to everyone tantalized to use the app. The developer explains that, “Deadline uses statistical information to attempt to determine your date of expiration, but no app can really accurately determine when you will die, so consider this a way to motivate yourself to be healthier, and consult a physician as necessary.”

If anything can determine you to eat healthier, work out more, breathe fresher air and stay away from the computer as much as possible, we’d say it’s worth at least a try. Priced at just $0.99 / €0.89, Deadline will more than return the favor you’re doing to its developer. Provided that you actually take into account what it has to say about your expectancy.

You can use it by providing answers about your lifestyle, age, family history etc., or you can let it fetch data from your Health app, but you need to have set up already. By using both types of data fetching, an even more accurate estimate will be provided, says Gist.

You're going to die. Sorry, we all do eventually. I don't want to, either,” says the creator. “But, what if you knew the date of your death? Would it motivate you to be healthier? [...] You can often change the date by living a healthier lifestyle. Watch the ticker...”

Gist also notes that Deadline also comes as a Today Extension / Widget.

You can download Deadline from the App Store on your iDevice and see your expiration date today. The software requires an iOS 8 device and works with all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models that support the firmware. There’s no option to change the language, so we’re all stuck using it in English.
