Earlier this year, director James Cameron shocked with an announcement that very few saw coming, though millions of fans around the world were actually counting on it: “Avatar 2” will also be made. Though nothing has yet been made official, MarketSaw has the first details of the production.

There is, like in movie clichés, a bad news and a good news, the publication says after speaking with what deems to be very reliable inside sources. The bad news is that the follow-up will drop for another 4 years, which, even for the most patient of fans, is a bit longer than they might have expected. The good news is that, now that Cameron has introduced the viewer to the beautiful Pandora world, there will be less “sightseeing” and more battle scenes.

“Heard from my source again and he says Avatar 2 WILL be made within 4 years. […] Will Avatar 2 be James Cameron’s next picture? The answer is... we don’t know yet. Honestly. Some sites are saying right now that pre-production is underway – that is inaccurate: They are preparing, but it is not officially underway yet. Cameron is always in some sort of prep for many movies on his slate. Hirings happen all the time in his world,” MarketSaw writes citing well-placed sources with the crew.

“Just what is being discussed right now? Well for one, what we saw in Avatar’s finale was just a battle. Avatar 2 will be full blown war. War is coming – Jim Cameron war that is! We know that Cameron and Landau are taking Avatar sequels OFF of Pandora and I am working closely with my sources to determine exactly where they will take place,” the publication goes on to say.

As per the same sources, chances are very few scenes will be on Pandora and that will only happen for practical reasons, namely, in order to be able to include scenes that did not make the cut in the first film. The rest of the film will be set on some other planet, but that is as far as this story goes. Of course, given the history with “Avatar,” fans can only hope James Cameron will not take another 12 years to come up with a sequel, assuming the shorter production time doesn’t harm the end result, that is.
