Special Extended Collector’s Editions of “Avatar” are out in mid-November in the UK and the US

Fans who loved “Avatar” should be thrilled to hear that 20th Century Fox has a major surprise in store for them: the previously announced Extended Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray and DVD has about 45 minutes of deleted scenes and many other surprises.

As is usually the case with all productions, much is cut out from the film when it comes out in theaters – some of that is not even included in the DVD or Blu-ray release.

That’s because some movie studios like to keep the best for last, which is also the case with 20th Century Fox, which brings in mid-November a grand total of 8+ hours of footage that has never been seen, Collider informs.

This, as noted above, also included 45 minutes of scenes that have been cut from the film (and don’t include the 8 extra minutes shown in theaters upon re-release), as well as a close look behind the scenes of the biggest movie of all times.

“The three-disc Avatar Extended Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and Avatar Collector’s Edition DVD will both feature the original theatrical release, a special edition re-release, and new collector’s extended cut with over 15 more minutes including an exclusive alternate opening earth scene,” reads a press release for the two collections.

“Viewers will have the ability to journey to the far-reaches of Pandora with ‘Capturing Avatar’ an in-depth feature length documentary covering the 16-year filmmaker journey that includes all new interviews with James Cameron, Jon Landau and cast and crew exploring Cameron’s unique vision for the film,” the same release reads.

That’s not all fans will get to do once the collections come out on November 15 (in the UK) and November 16 (in the US), because they will also get to see how Pandora and the Na’vis were created.

Moreover, with the inclusion of the 45 minutes of deleted scenes, fans will also be offered an alternate open ending, which is, of course, different from the one shown in theaters.

As Collider notes, many of these scenes will probably not come completed with final CGI but should be enough to offer an idea of how Cameron’s mind works when he’s creating an entire universe for a film.

Should you be in the UK and interested, you should probably make sure you get in line first because the first release is a special “Fan Pack” that has only 1,000 copies, therefore is a limited edition.
