As the meme goes: if you break a promise, you're going to have a bad time. Not to beat about the bush, recent news on the topic of whaling says that the Australian government has lost some of its popularity after promising to monitor whaling activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and then failing to stand by its word.

Just yesterday, green group Sea Shepherd issued a press release saying that three of its vessels, i.e. The Steve Irwin, The Bob Barker, and The Sam Simon had managed to track down five Japanese whalers inside said protected area.

In its press release, the organization details that, by the time its members located the Japanese vessels and began trailing them, the whalers had already managed to kill four minke whales, one of which they even had time to butcher.

Footage obtained by Sea Shepherd members and shared with the public shows the bodies of three minke whales lying on the deck of a Japanese vessel dubbed the Nisshin Maru.

Just some meter away from the corpses of these marine mammals, the ship's deck is covered in blood. According to the organization, this is probably because the crew had just finished slaughtering a fourth whale.

The anti-whaling group is now quite upset with Australian Environment Minister Greg Hunt, ABC News tells us.

This is because, despite having promised to do so just one month ago, the Minister has failed to send a plane to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and have it monitor the Japanese fleet.

What's more, Environment Minister Greg Hunt has broken a promise made during the elections campaign. At that time, he said that the Australian government would send a ship to the area.

Just like the plane, the ship was supposed to keep a close eye on whaling activities and, just like the aircraft, the promised vessel never made it to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

In case anyone was wondering, this did not happen because the ship got lost on the way, but because it never left for this destination.

Sea Shepherd says that, although the Australian government has broken these two promises, the crew aboard The Steve Irwin, The Bob Barker, and The Sam Simon are determined not to let the Japanese whalers kill any more marine mammals.
