According to the latest reports, a total of 36 countries from all around the world are hosting command and control servers for the controversial FinFisher legal surveillance software.

As more and more details are coming to light about the spying software, many civil rights groups are curious to know which governments are actually using the tool to monitor their citizens.

Right to Know, an initiative of the OpenAustralia Foundation, has made a freedom of information (FOI) request to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for all documents, reports and emails relating to Gamma International’s FinFisher software from the beginning of 2012 until present day.

The request was made on May 5, 2013 and today, the AFP has sent Right to Know its final response.

“Having reviewed your request and pursuant to section 25 of the Act, the AFP is unable to confirm or deny the existence of documents in relation to your request,” AFP representatives said.

So there you have it. Australian authorities don’t want to say anything about FinFisher.
