An analysis from Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC has shown that the month of August has been a record breaking one for the Xbox Live Arcade service from Microsoft, with estimates revenues reaching 17.5 million dollars, which is 6 percent higher than the record breaking August of 2009.

Part of the good performance is linked with the Summer of Arcade promotion, which has seen important tiles, like the new Lara Croft title launched during the past few weeks.

Benjamin Schlichter, who is the director of Research & Analysis at FADE, stated, “Summer of Arcade was, for the third year in a row, a massive success for Microsoft and its publishers.”

One of the best performers has been Trials HD which has managed to sell more than 1 million units in about 12 months, lagging behind only Battlefield 1943 in terms of how fast it reached the milestone and the game continues to sell very well.

Microsoft also talked about the top selling games on Xbox Live Marketplace, in terms of units sold:

1. Monday Night Combat from Uber Entertainment - 187,000 units at 1200 Microsoft Points 2. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair from Konami - 131,000 units at 1200 Microsoft Points 3. LIMBO from Playdead - 128,000 units at 1200 Microsoft Points 4. Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light from Crystal Dynamics - 107,000 units at 1200 Microsoft Points 5.
