USB digital-to-analog convertors (DACs) are nothing new, but Audioengine has decided that it’s time to take this concept one step further and recently released the audiophile-grade D1 USB DAC.

While on the outside this might look like your average USB DAC, the D1 makes no compromises and features a high-end AK4396 DAC with TI NE5532 headphone amplifier.

Thanks to this configuration, over USB, the D1 supports a maximum of 96kHz rate at an impressive 24 bit resolution, while over its integrated optical port it delivers 192kHz @ 24 bit resolution.

Furthermore, there’s also an RCA jack on the back, so you can connect even high-end audio speakers to it.

If these specs have you convinced, the Audioengine D1 could be yours right now for $169 (about 128 EUR), which is a good price considering the audio quality it promises to deliver.
