Australian manufacturer Atomos, known for its award-winning camera-mounted recorders, has recently released a new firmware update for the Samurai, Ninja-2, and Ronin recorders.

The Atomos Samurai is a portable camera-mounted recorder, monitor, and deck for HD/SDI cameras, capable of capturing Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD to removable 2.5'' HDD/SSD disk drives.

In addition to that, Samurai also comes with a 5'' TFT/LCD 800x480 high-resolution screen, focus peaking, false color, adjustable zebra, blue-only monitor assist as well as a touchscreen application especially designed for recording, monitoring, playback, or edit review.

The new Samurai firmware v4.21 fixes an issue with SDI audio control packets that caused audio incompatibility with older SDI monitors. Moreover, the new firmware also expands the number of affordable SSDs supported by partitioning sectors to 1MB boundary, thus improving SSD performance.

The Atomos Ronin is a rack-mount/portable recorder, monitor, and deck for studios and live production that has similar features as the Samurai, but also integrates balanced stereo XLR audio as well as timecode record and trigger from infrastructure. The new Ronin firmware v4.21 comes with the same fixes and improvements as the latest Samurai update.

When it comes to the Atomos Ninja-2, you should know that this is a powerful camera-mounted recorder, monitor, and deck for media professionals that works with most HDMI cameras and DSLRs.

Ninja-2 is capable of recording directly from the sensor to 10-bit, 4:2:2 ProRes, or DNxHD, trigger REC/STOP from camera when used with certain Canon and Sony models and features Nikon, Sony, and Canon DSLRs battery adaptor plates.

The latest firmware v4.21 for Atomos Ninja-2 also improves SSD performance, adding support for cheaper SSD's by partitioning sectors to 1MB boundary. In addition to that, occasional split clips on long recordings have also been improved when using the C100 and N2 combination.

If you want to benefit from the latest additions, you should download and install the new firmware for your Atomos camera-mounted recorder.
