AMD has launched today the most powerful single-core processor from its range of products. Entitled Athlon 64 FX-57, this processor is every gamer?s dream.

AMD?s new processing solution is the first one which employs 90 nanometer process technology, instead of the classical 130nm. The processor is fitted with 1MB of L2 cache memory and a 2GHz HyperTransport bus.

Unlike FX-55, FX57 is able to work with 533MHz DDR memory, but AMD has failed to provide DDR2 support.

If we take a look under the hood of this CPU, the future owners will have what to show off: 200MHz more than the FX57 and 400MHz more than the dual-core X2 4800+ solution.

This silicon monster requires a standard socket 939 motherboard and a bios upgrade. "The AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 processor is the fastest CPU available for running Half-Life(R) 2, and the AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 processor will be even faster," said Gabe Newell, founder and president of Valve. "I have an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 processor in my personal gaming system, and I look forwarding to upgrading to the AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 processor."

Athlon 64 FX-57?s only problem is the price, which is ... brace yourselves ... $1,031 (and only in shipments of 1,000).
