The game was previously in development at Pipeworks

An online RollerCoast Tycoon experience is the dream of any fan that grew with the franchise, which is now owned by Atari. The project to bring fans of the genre an online game has kicked off earlier this year with the promise that the new title would be released in early 2015.

Atari handed this project to Pipeworks Software, but it looks like the publisher wasn’t satisfied by how the work was progressing or the developer’s vision.

The good news is development hasn’t been halted and fans will eventually get their game next year. Called RollerCoaster Tycoon World, the PC game is now being developed by Area 52 Games, a studio formed by people who worked on popular titles like The Sims, Railroad Tycoon, Age of Empires, Forza and Tropico.

The announcement comes along with a brand new website, Facebook and Twitter page, all dedicated to the upcoming RollerCoaster Tycoon World game.

The new team in charge with RollerCoaster Tycoon World’s development hasn’t made any comments on the release date of the game. Although the game was initially slated for an early 2015 release, it will be interesting to see whether or not Area 52 Games will be pushing the launch date by a few months.

That highly depends on what Pipeworks Software has done to the project since they took over the development of RollerCoaster Tycoon World.

Speaking of which, Area 52 Games seems pretty content with the work the previous development team has put into the game, “many thanks to Pipeworks for all their efforts in getting us to this point in the development of the game.”

The game is still expected to land on PC in early 2015

Area 52 Games promises to keep a close eye on gamers’ posts on the newly launched RollerCoaster Tycoon World forums, “the new forums strengthen the Atari RCTW community so gamers can play an active role, hear updates, and have an open forum for engagement.”

Last but not least, the new developers of RollerCoaster Tycoon World promise to release new assets such as screenshots, artwork, dev blogs and videos very soon. These new assets will most likely be posted on the game’s new social network accounts as well as forums.

Still, the most important thing that RollerCoaster Tycoon fans will probably want to know is when exactly they should expect the game to be released. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
