And other plans

Atari has been making a lot of announcements lately. It seems that the company is pretty interested in getting in the music game market, creating a project called QJ, thought to be a competitor to the already launched Wii Music.

Atari is also joining forces with Traveller's Tales in order to bring the second season of Sam & Max to stores everywhere. The game, which is available for the Nintendo Wii and the PC, stars a rabbit like creature with a violent temper and his bear like companion as they fight robotic invaders, exorcise Santa Claus and even visit a place called Hell. The DVD release of the game will feature all new full French and German translations for the entire dialog, while offering subtitles for Italian and Spanish players. The company could also be releasing the third season of Sam & Max if and when Traveller's Tales creates it.

But Infogrames’ president, Phil Harrison, talked about his company being interested in tackling old and much lived intellectual properties like Baldur's Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter Nights and Test Drive Unlimited. He said that “You will hear more from these but not today, because we're focused on 2009,” which means that announcements will come much later.

It makes sense to create a Neverwinter Nights 3, considering the fact that Neverwinter Nights 2 already has two expansions. But even more exciting is the fact that the company is considering bringing back the Baldur's Gate series, also set in Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons. The first two games in the series were very good role playing experiences, built around managing a party of adventurers. It would be nice to see something along those lines, even if it means Atari could be competing against BioWare, which is now developing Dragon Age.
