Mythical action

Can the sales performance of a videogame where most of the Gods of the Greek Pantheon get destroyed by the Ghost of Sparta by called “godly?” It seems so, as news has popped up saying that God of War 3 is beating the expectations Sony had for it.

Peter Dille, who is the senior vice president in charge of marketing and the PlayStation Network, said at the MI6 conference, which takes place in San Francisco that God of War 3 managed to sell more than 1 million units in what he describes as “the first couple of days.”

It's not clear whether the total is only for the North American market or for the entire world. As God of War 3 was launched on March 16, more clear information about the sales performance of the big PlayStation 3 exclusive will come as part of the April and May NPD Group figures.

The first two main God of War videogames, also published exclusively on the Sony made home console, have managed to sell more than 8 million units since they were released and the company is also betting that the conclusion of the revenge of Kratos will draw in an even bigger crowd. The game has pretty much the same basic mechanics as its predecessors but the graphics on offer are much more impressive, and the battles, which involve Titans and a lot of mythical beast riding, are much more gory.

Sony has claimed repeatedly that God of War 3 is the last to feature the iconic warrior as the main character although the name might be used in the future to create other titles. The developers at the Santa Monica studio in charge of the videogame have also talked about a cut epilogue that might be coming as downloadable content at a later date.
