14 DAY TRIAL // Asus' amazingly popular Zenfone 2 smartphone is about to make its debut in the United States and Canada. The device has already been released in some countries, but there are still a lot of regions where the Zenfone 2 has yet to hit shelves.
We reported last month that the Zenfone 2 had been listed at Amazon US, but now it looks like Asus has started to send invitations to the smartphone's launch event, a new report claims.
According to the invitation, Asus will launch the Zenfone 2 in North America on May 18. However, it's unclear whether the device will go on sale around the same date or it will take a few weeks until customers will be able to get it.
Asus has yet to confirm which version of the Zenfone 2 will launch in North America this month, but since both 2GB and 4GB models are listed at Amazon US, we expect them both to be officially introduced in May.
No word on price tag yet, but Asus Zenfone 2 with 4GB RAM is now available at Amazon US for $380 (€337) outright, while the 2GB RAM model can be had for just $220 (€195).
Asus may announce lower prices for the Zenfone 2 next month, though nothing is known for sure at this point, so take this as speculation for the moment.
Both 2GB and 4GB models might be announced
Moving on to specs, the Zenfone 2 ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and Asus Zen UI on top. The smartphone sports a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.
Depending on the model, the smartphone might be equipped with a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor (the 4GB model) or 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 CPU (the 2GB model).
In addition, they come with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM. Both versions feature microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB) and plenty of internal storage (16/32/64 GB).
Asus Zenfone 2 packs a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel camera in front for selfies.
It's also worth mentioning that the phone comes with LTE support and is powered by a high-capacity non-removable 3,000 mAh battery.
