Those of you living in Europe who have been planning on getting an Asus Transformer Prime tablet for Christmas may have to reconsider your plans as the Taiwanese company has apparently decided to launch the Kal-El powered slate in this part of the world in January of 2012.

Asus Holland has informed Tablets Magazine that the Transformer Prime won't arrive in the Netherlands until January 6, which could indicate the European release date of the tablet.

Asia and most probably North America could potentially get the Transformer Prime earlier as the company's chairman Jonney Shih revealed previously that it should go on sale for the Christmas holiday season.

A launch event is scheduled to take place on November 9 and this is when more info about the release of the tablet should become available.

The Transformer Prime 10.1-inch tablet is built around an Nvidia Tegra 3 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device that is fitted inside a 8.3mm thick chassis reminding us of the company's recently launched Ultrabooks.

Just like the original Transformer tablet, the Prime can also be connected to a keyboard docking station to provide a more laptop-like experience.

In addition to the Nvidia quad-core chip, the Transformer Prime will also come fitted with an SD card slot, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and with a mini HDMI port for connecting it to an external display.

All this hardware is powered by a massive battery (as it was revealed by the Prime's FCC teardown) that should be able to deliver an impressive 14.5 hours of battery life.

The initial version of the Asus tablet will run that Android Honeycomb operating system, but an Ice Cream Sandwich update is expected to hit the Prime in December of this year.
