14 DAY TRIAL // With just a few days to go until Asus makes official the Crosshair V Formula AM3+ motherboard for AMD Bulldozer processors, the board went through a picture preview to reveal many of its secrets.
The Crosshair V Formula will be Asus' most powerful motherboard for Zambezi FX processors and is based on AMD's flagship chipset, the 990FX, which is paired together with the SB950 south bridge controller.
Just as all the other ROG products in Asus' lineup, the Crosshair V Formula also uses the same black and red colorway, as well as a clean and well thought-out layout which doesn't seem to have any major design issues.
However, there are a few things that I would have liked to see moved in other parts of the board, like the MOLEX plug, and I would also have liked to see more space between the last two PCI-E x16 slots, but these minor oversights won't prove to be much of a problem for most of its users.
Speaking of the PCI Express x16, Asus has decided to install four such slots on the Crosshair V Formula, which are also accompanied by a legacy PCI slot and by a PCI-E x1 slot.
Storage is provide by seven SATA 6Gbps connectors and the motherboard also features 7.1-channel SupremeFX X-Fi 2 sound, an Intel Gigabit Ethernet controller, six USB 3.0 ports and a powered 6Gbps eSATA port.
CPU power is provided by an Extreme Engine Digi+ 8+2 phase VRM and the board also packs a wide assortment of Asus specific technologies, such as ROG Connect, MemOK! or the TurboV Evo application.
Select models will include the Asus Thunderbolt add-on card that packs together a Killer NIC Ethernet controller and a headset amplifier.
The Asus Crosshair V Formula will be officially unveiled at the Computex 2011 fair, which starts on May 31, and pricing will be set between 5000 and 7000 Czech koruny ($237 and $335 US, without VAT). (via Tyden.cz)
