More powerful central processing units equal more heat dissipated so an efficient cooling system is a crucial part of a stable and performance oriented computer. After the release of its general use Vanquisher processor cooler Asus now officially announced the availability of a cooler specially designed for use with quad core processors, supporting bot AMD and Intel products.

The new Asus processor cooler is named Silent Knight II and it is made entirely of copper, a material with much better heat conductive properties that aluminum. Copper fins, base and heat pipes were coupled with an automated fan speed control unit in order to keep even the latest quad core processors running cool while maintaining a low noise level. Because of the variable fan speed the Silent Knight II offers "quiet performance and a unique design that includes a blue LED for a peaceful computing environment as well as a stylish system interior", according to the manufacturing company, Asus.

In order to maximize the heat dissipation properties of a cooler most manufacturers are employing big solutions which are quite heavy and stress the securing system of the motherboard but the Silent Knight II is enjoying a lightweight design as it features no less than six heat pipes and an all copper design. The new Asus cooler supports the latest AMD and Intel central processing units based on the quad core architecture as well as older designs regardless of their physical socket. The supported processors from Intel are including the entire Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo series as well as Pentium D Dual Core and Pentium 4 processors which are using the LGA 775 socket. From AMD the Asus Silent Knight II supports all processors based on the following sockets 754, 939, 940 and AM2/ AM2+, so it is a cooling solution ready for the most powerful computing platforms available today.

The new Asus cooler comes with a 9cm LED illuminated fan which supports speed control and it comes with a shield which directs the airflow toward the voltage regulation modules from the motherboard which are critical to the performance and stability of the entire computer system. Because of this unique feature the Silent Knight II not only cools the central processing unit, but also cools the nearby components, reducing the VRM (voltage regulation modules) temperature by ten to 15 degrees allowing for smooth and stable operations.
