Asus CEO Jerry Shen makes some interesting comments related to the company's future plans

Without a doubt, Asus is one of the most “trending” companies around, as it's sort of shed its motherboard-manufacturer clothes and now aims for a much wider audience.

And the company's future plans seem to be set well within this direction, since, within an interview carried out at CeBIT 2011 by mail.ru, Asus' quite vocal CEO, Mr. Jerry Shen, provided some very interesting insight on what we should expect from them in the near future.

Naturally, given Asus' huge interest for the tablet market, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that one of the main topics was represented exactly by these ultra-portable computing solutions, Mr. Shen revealing the fact that the company's actually working on a tablet equipped with a 3D display, one that will help them reach that number 2 spot in the tablet market they so dearly covet (for 2012, at least).

Strange enough, it seems that it won't pack twin cameras for 3D photo and video shooting (not exactly sure why Asus would chose to disregard this feature), but it will most likely run the Android operating system from Google and feature an NVIDIA Tegra chip inside, given the fact that Mr. Shen actually expressed its support for the two companies, the only ones capable, in his opinion, to bring down Apple from its current market position.

However, Asus is interested in far more areas than just tablets, the company's top honcho expressing his support for Intel's Meego operating system, and revealing the fact that they'll actually develop netbooks running Meego, as well as notebooks running Android, at some point in the near future (most likely set to arrive on the market this year).

Last, but certainly not least, as far as smartphones are concerned, Mr. Shen commented that they'll seriously considering a Windows Phone 7 device for the future, but also that they're sticking to Android for the time being.

Of course, it remains to be seen just how many of these goals Asus will ultimately get to achieve but, quite naturally, we certainly hope that this will be the case, since we're most likely set to see even more exciting products on the future.
