The bill has a space theme, so the setting was fitting

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is doing so much aboard the ISS that it's beginning to look like there's more than one of him up there.

Between a constant stream of gorgeous photos, the tweeting, keeping the ISS running as he's the commander now, bringing in the Progress supply ship despite some malfunctions, Hadfield finds time to debut the new Canadian $5 bill in space.

This isn't just Canadians making good use of their most famous countryman; the new bill features a space theme, showing the Earth as seen from space and depicting Canadarm, ISS' robotic arm, the very one used to snatch the spacecraft during docking, and Dextre, the space station's robotic handyman.

The new bill is on the cutting edge of technology itself, as long as you consider plastic cutting-edge technology. The $5 and $10 bills are the last in Canada's move away from cotton paper money.
