It can handle notebooks of 12- to 15.4-inch diagonals

Laptop coolers come in a variety of sizes, but what they all have in common (save for very few) is that they have one or more fans blowing air into the underside of a laptop through a mesh top.

The Astro III is the latest model to be launched by Spire, and bears the technical part number SP-NC351-BK.

First off, the cooler is compatible with laptops of diagonals 12 inches to 15.4 inches. That means most of them, since only some hardcore gaming systems and workstations reach 17.3 inches.

A single fan with a diameter of 200 mm provides the air current necessary to dissipate the heat that tends to gather on the underside of a notebook.

Speaking of which, said notebook underside won't slop because of anti-slip feet and top pads.

The power needed by the fan is provided by a USB port. Unfortunately, there is no USB hub included in the Astro III, save for one secondary connector besides the needed connection for power transference.

Then again, it's not like cooling stand USB ports get that much use anyway. Laptops high-end enough to need such things usually have enough USB ports of their own.

The Spire Astro III will sell soon, with 2 years of warranty, for the price of $19.95 / €19.95.
