Ubisoft has shared quite a lot of new details about Assassin's Creed Unity at a special San Diego Comic-Con 2014 panel, confirming more info about the French Revolution setting, the new protagonist Arno Dorian, and the actual gameplay.

Assassin's Creed Unity marks a big departure for the series, as it's the first to not appear on last-gen consoles like PS3 or Xbox 360 and introduces a native cooperative mode to the story campaign, meaning players can work with their friends to explore Paris and complete missions.

Since the game's proper reveal at E3 2014 last month, Ubisoft has shared quite a lot of info about the title. Now, at the San Diego Comic-Con 2014, even more details have been revealed by the publisher, thanks to a special panel dedicated to Unity.

All the info was rounded up by the official Twitter account and it seems that Unity will impress fans in a variety of ways.

First up, protagonist Arno Dorian has a sense of humor, using wit and blunt approaches to take other characters by surprise. He starts off rather selfish, apparently, driven only by revenge. However, as the story unfolds he realizes what role he can play for Paris and the rest of France and becomes a big part of the revolution. A love interest is going to appear, but Ubisoft mentions that personal motivations are still going to drive Arno in his quest.

The French Revolution setting is a perfect one for Assassin's Creed, as it provides lots of chaos, and thanks to new AI system, all sorts of situations and stories will develop organically during a playthrough.

"The French Revolution setting provides massive crowds, great characters, and new narrative opportunities, and was a perfect setting for a game. The French Revolution brought a lot of contrast. It’s brutal and chaotic, but it led to amazing stories that are captured in the game," Ubisoft says.

"The game is more systemic. The developers want chaos to happen. There are several factions that interact with each other on their own. This means that events happen around you even if you don’t intervene. It makes the city feel more alive and more unpredictable. There are seamless interiors you can enter with no loading. Once you’re in Paris, there’s no loading."

Deep character customization is also important in Unity, as players can create their own version of Arno both in terms of visual style and in terms of skills, as a new progression system is in place.

There won't be cameos from older characters in the series, but the story will allude to some of them during the campaign.

Assassin's Creed Unity launches later this fall on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
