The development team at Ubisoft in charge of supporting Assassin's Creed: Unity announces that the Dead Kings campaign for the game, which is designed to expand on the story of main character Arno, will be launched on January 13 on the PC and the Xbox One from Microsoft and on January 14 on the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The content will be offered for free to all those who purchased the game since it was launched and is designed to expand on the core elements of the series, while introducing an impressive new location with its own unique design.

The team states, "After the events of Assassin’s Creed Unity, Arno leaves Paris for Saint Denis, a mysterious city that holds the crypts of deceased French kings. Sent on a mission to the extensive underground of the Basilica, Arno will face a faction of new foes, the Raiders, populating its catacombs."

Assassin's Creed: Unity – Dead Kings will introduce a lantern that gamers will need to use to navigate the environments and a powerful new Guillotine gun.

Gamers who get the DLC will also be able to explore more side missions and more cooperative content, and completing the new content will lead to unlocks for weapons, gear and costumes that can be used in the core campaign.

Assassin's Creed: Unity had plenty of problems on launch

When the Ubisoft open world experience was first launched, it had a number of issues on all platforms, including reduced framerates which made it impossible to explore the city of Paris.

The development team has since introduced a range of patches for Assassin's Creed: Unity in order to deal with the problems that the community flagged.

The free nature of Dead Kings is designed to make up for the issues that the game had and Ubisoft has also taken the unprecedented step of dropping the Season Pass that it was planning to use to deliver more content to the game for a price.

A China-themed Assassin's Creed title will be launched as a paid experience later in the year.
