Video game developer and publisher Ubisoft has delivered a new look at the upcoming Assassin's Creed Syndicate during its E3 2015 press conference, showing players some of the core gameplay mechanics that will power the open world experience.

The footage delivered by the company does not use actual footage taken from the title and opts to deliver high-quality cutscenes that show Jacob Frye, the leader of the Rooks, as he moves across Victorian London trying to make sure that he takes back the city from the corrupt powers that dominate it.

There's an extensive battle sequence that takes place between two gangs and a recruitment moment in which the protagonist basically steals another gang from under the influence of its leader.

Ubisoft states, "As rebellious Jacob Frye, chase your target across the massive open world of Victorian London. Fight on carriages and trains, use the rope launcher and the new cane sword to defeat a Templar, gang leader."

Assassin's Creed Syndicate will deliver a world that's bigger than any other featured in the series, and the development team claims that players can employ either stealth or powerful combat moves in order to take out enemies and control territory.

Victorian London offers a new set of gameplay challenges

Because gamers are now involved in the Industrial Revolution, they will have to deal with a range of new enemies, including ones who are using firearms to get an advantage and groups that attack all at a time in order to overwhelm the player character.

Ubisoft also promises that there are new and interesting ways to use the Rooks, the gang that Frye leads, in order to execute side missions and gain advantages.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate will also continue the series' tradition of involving major figures from the era in the core story, with Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin chosen to interact with players as the narrative evolves.

Ubisoft has also promised that the overall story of the franchise will evolve in interesting ways although it has not yet offered any clear details.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate will be out on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft on October 23 of this year.
