It looks like Assassin’s Creed fans will have to wait at least one more year for the release of the movie announced by Ubisoft back in 2011.

One of the most beloved Ubisoft franchises will be getting a movie next year if nothing wrong happens in the meantime. Although it was initially slated for an August 2015 release, the Assassin’s Creed movie has now been delayed due to unknown reasons.

According to HollywoodReporter, Fox has decided to move the release of the Assassin’s Creed movie to December 21, 2016. This means that we’re almost 2 years away from its premiere, if it doesn’t get delayed again during this time.

Assassin’s Creed’s protagonist Michael Fassbender was approached back in 2012, but apart from him, there aren’t any details on the rest of the cast.

We also know the movie will be directed by Justin Kurzel who’s currently working on Macbeth starring none other than Michael Fassbender.

The movie will be directed by Justin Kurzel

While we’re not sure how Fox and Ubisoft have come up with the Fassbender name, but given Kurtzel’s previous history with the actor, we believe the studio and the game publisher chose the director first.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Michael Fassbender is in fact Kurtzel’s option for Assassin’s Creed. Anyway, Michael Fassbender will most likely be a great Ezio, Altair or Connor, if he remains in the cast.

Story-wise, we know absolutely nothing about what events will be depicted in the movie or whether or not the script will tell a totally different story that will be placed between Assassin’s Creed games.

An Assassin’s Creed movie offers so many options when it comes to story and setting that we dare not make any assumptions.

A modern Assassin’s Creed movie might be just as good as one that takes place in the 14th century. It all depends on the story and acting. The latter is well covered by Michael Fassbender, so it remains to be seen how good the script will be.
