Not long ago, reports online were saying that Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore had never filed for divorce because they were never legally married in the first place. PageSix says the reason is more trivial than that: money.

According to sources close to the former couple, their divorce is not going anywhere because they can’t reach an understanding over financial issues.

In other words, they’re fighting over who gets what from the other.

“Sources tell us that lawyers for Kutcher, the highest-paid TV actor last year, and Moore ‘are trying to negotiate a settlement out of court and out of the public eye’,” the e-zine says.

“[But] they still haven’t reached an agreement over money, because Ashton earned substantially more during the final years of their marriage, but he doesn’t want to pay a large settlement,” the insider adds.

If this situation continues, “the discussion could boil over into a public court battle,” says the spy, which means all their dirty laundry will air in public.

Ashton, for instance, made $24 million (€18.3 million) with his gig on “Two and a Half Men” last year alone, so a large chunk of that would go to Demi in the eventuality they did not sign a prenup when they were married.

Assuming the above report is accurate, at least he’s putting on a brave face: on his many, recent outings with his latest girlfriend Mila Kunis, Ashton has seemed completely unfazed by the divorce.

Just the other day, the two got his and hers pedis at a spa, looking like the most carefree couple in the world.

At the same time, reports online claim that Demi is having a hard time accepting the reality of the demise of her 6-year marriage to Ashton, as well as the fact that he’s already moved on with a younger, hotter woman.
