“Twilight” star says her personal life often overshadows her acting career

Ashley Greene is definitely one of the hottest, most beautiful young actresses of today, but this kind of reputation, she says, comes with a downside: people tend to forget that she's also an actress.

The “Twilight” star sat down with Blackbook for an interview for the latest issue and, among other things, she says it bothers her to a certain extent the kind of attention she gets in the media for her personal life.

It's almost like her efforts to build a career in showbiz are annulled, she seems to believe.

“I’m not an actress, I’m a professional dater,” she says with a laugh, referring to the media's obsession with the men she's reportedly seeing.

“I’m dating everyone! My brother lives in LA and won’t even walk outside a restaurant with me. He’s like, 'I do not want to be romantically linked to you',” she continues.

“I’m not dating anyone. I’m very focused on what I’m going to do next,” Ashley further says.

The interview comes just days after her Allure piece came out, in which she said Gerard Butler, to whom she's also been romantically linked, albeit for a one-night stand, was “old,” a comment that got her the ire of Gerry fans.

Still, it could be that Greene has a point with being upset about how much media her dating life is getting – after all, she says, she's worked so hard to get where she is, that she'd hate to see it all go down the drain because she became a tabloid persona.

“The first year I was in LA, I worked my [backside] off. I was in acting classes every day. I would rather pay money for a class than have nice clothes,” she says in the same interview.

“If I hadn’t worked as hard as I did, I wouldn’t be with the manager and the agent I have and they wouldn’t have sent me out for this Twilight thing. There are roles I didn’t get and I was really devastated, but because I didn’t get them, I was able to do Twilight,” Ashely adds, choosing to see the silver lining of the cloud.

“If you end up unsuccessful, on the street with no friends, it’s probably because you’re a jerk. It’s not necessarily divine intervention. Your actions predict what happens,” she continues.

However, she believes she was also lucky that the casting director liked her, even though she didn't get the Bella part for which she auditioned, she still got to be a part of the “Twilight” franchise.
