We’re all used to throwing out trash and all those things we were once so fond of but which we can no longer find any use for, like old watches, radio sets, bike parts and whatever else you could think of. For French sculptor Edouard Martinet, junk has an entirely different meaning.

And that’s because he can turn it into art, a different kind of sculpture that uses discarded items and blends them together with the help of screws to create birds, fishes or insects. Call it recycling taken to a whole new level, call it art, call it whatever you want but, if you happen to be in London for the next couple of months, make sure you check out his exhibit.

It opens at the Sladmore Contemporary in London tomorrow, November 27, 2013 and will run until January 31, 2014.

Hailing from Brittany, France, Martinet discovered a passion for insects when he was only 10 years old but it would take him another few years until he found this unique way of creating them. No insectarium has ever looked this cool, especially if you take the time to analyze every bit that goes into the making of just one tiny insect.

However, as you can see in the photo above, Martinet also does birds. This raven, for instance, is made of secateur springs, bike chain guards, motorbike fender, a piece of an old radio loudspeaker, motorbike rear light and spyholes. They’re not glued together, but screwed on.

More photos of the Martinet’s amazing work are available on his official website.
