Smaller, but maybe more affordable

It's always nice to have a keyboard that can provide for you more than just the basic keyboard features. However, it's not until you get to customize each and every one of keyboard's keys that you know you are dealing with one truly special product. One such product is Art Lebedev's OLED Keyboard that, because of its price tag, is still something that most only get to see at computer trade shows.

Art Lebedev, the company that built the Optimus Maximus OLED keyboard, has announced that it will soon launch a new product based on the company's first keyboard design. However, this time around, the new OLED keyboard is not going to be as large sized as Maximus, which means that it will probably be a lot more affordable, although details about its pricing are still unavailable.

The new keyboard or, better said, keypad, is going to be dubbed Pultius and will have roughly the same size as a numpad. This means that it only has space for a number of keys, 15 to be more exact, and that it will be used as an addition to a standard keyboard. The keypad will also offer its users an additional USB port, which is almost a standard feature for high-end keyboards.

The 15 OLED keys are aligned in three rows and can be customized pretty much in the same way as with the Optimus Maximus keyboard - that is, by using a provided software application that will allow users to assign a different function and icon to each key.

The Pultius could prove to be the ideal tool for gaming users, because it presents them with a customizable keyboard that offers 15 keys within reach. Unfortunately, the new keypad will only be made available sometime by the end of this year, or the beginning of 2009. However, as already noted above, its price tag is yet to be revealed.
