Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s 26-year marriage came crumbling down when she learned he’d been cheating on her with the family housekeeper and had even fathered her a child. Not all hope is lost for them, a new report suggests.

As per the star’s own words, Maria found out about all this – and many other of his infidelities – during a couples therapy session. She asked for legal separation shortly afterwards.

However, she didn’t file for divorce for yet another while, which sparked speculation that either they couldn’t reach a financial agreement or were trying to work things out.

TMZ is now saying that the divorce is pretty much on hold, with the two sending very mixed messages to their friends as to the exact cause of that.

One theory would be that they don’t really want to be divorced.

“They are not done with each other, and there's still a chance they'll get back together. Our sources say both Arnold and Maria have sent mixed messages to their friends and family – at times saying they want the divorce, and other times talking about how they still feel love for their longtime partner,” the celebrity e-zine writes.

At the same time, other insiders claim that, “lately Maria is more amenable to divorce because she's hearing that Arnold has a girlfriend.”

Another theory for why the divorce is on hold is that both Maria and Arnold are so rich that they really don’t care about the formality.

They have already agreed that all their assets will be divided 50/50, which means each will get an estimated $200 million (€154.9 million).

Signing the divorce papers won’t change anything, they believe.

“Short story: neither one of them is in a hurry to pull the trigger, because it will have NO IMPACT on their day-to-day lives,” TMZ concludes.

Considering that, not long ago, Arnold was quoted as saying that he still loved Maria, for which reason he was convinced they’d get back together, many agree that their divorce being on hold means that they’re actually talking things out to give it another go.
