14 DAY TRIAL // Ariana Grande has a new album to promote and all the negative media attention she’s been getting for her alleged diva behavior isn’t winning her any new fans, even if the rumors aren’t true. So what better way to reach out to a new segment of the music-loving couple than by doing something totally different for a change?
The pint-sized diva was confirmed as one of the acts to perform at last night’s Country Music Awards 2014, which took place in Nashville. Since the announcement, many thought she would be out of place and that there was no way this would work; according to the Washington Post, that turned out to be exactly the case.
Ariana’s number was incorporated in a medley with Little Big Town’s “Day Drinking,” with her not showing up on stage until the second half of the musical number, wearing her trademark stage outfit (platform shoes, tiny outfit, high ponytail), which had been “tweaked” to glow in the dark, just like the outfits of the quartet and the drummers in the background.
You can see the performance below. If you ask me, it sounded and looked great. If you ask media outlets covering the CMAs, like the aforementioned Washington Post, the whole thing felt weird, strangely out of place, albeit vocally astounding.
Ariana may be tiny and she may be young and she may be an insufferable diva, but she sure can sing!
Considering we’re talking about an awards gala that has actually made history with its many and very surprising cross-genre performances, hearing that Ariana was perhaps the weirdest match for Little Big Town is quite a lot. Check it out and let me know what you think of it.
