MyTablet gained a brief momentum of popularity in 2013, as it managed to boost Argos sales

Remember that back in October 2013 UK retailer Argos took up the example of supermarket giant Tesco and released a tablet effort of its own, blandly called MyTablet, which sold for a relatively decent £99 / $160 / €116?

To make this product a reality, Argos partnered up with hardware manufacturer KMS, but to those looking forward to a next-gen MyTablet, I must confess I have band news.

Apparently, KMS has entered liquidation after Argos has refused to pay the manufacturer a total of £3.2 / $5.3 / €3.88 million, as a result of finding out the operator had installed Google Mobile Services on the tablet, without getting the proper agreement for Google, says Ubergizmo.

Android is a free operating system and is open source, but the right to pre-load mobile devices with Google services requires the search giant to give its express consent. And the issue apparently can’t be solved by KMS finally obtaining the license and neither by it removing the services from the tablet altogether.

So it appears that MyTablet story has come to an abrupt end, with an Argos official claiming he doesn't think KMS will be able to make a comeback anytime soon.
