It's called 'ludology' and if you want, you can make it a major

Private university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, founded in 1636, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning still operating in the United States. It is one of the eight members of the Ivy League. All right, that's something everyone knew, what everyone didn't know is that Harvard recently teaches Gaming. Hard to believe? Believe it!

Ludology, that's the name of the subject and if you're wondering why it's called like that, it's because it comes from the Latin word "ludos" which stands for game or play. They probably thought of deeper studies on video games due to the constant advance of technology, that seemingly steals away more and more of our time, with each passing day.

Harvard isn't the first to make studies on video games, but it certainly is the first and only one to make a major out of it. Ludology is also known to be dealing with narratology. The studying of video games is an attempt to understand video games, the players, and the interactions between them. Like most fields, those who study video games often have differing approaches. While scholars use many different theoretical frameworks, the two most visible approaches are ludology and narratology.

But how does this help the world in any way? Well, surely there are some good reasons for which those at Harvard would include such a field. You don't have to be a kid to still enjoy video games, and since everybody plays on their computer for relaxation, why do it at home? It may be a solution to give the students more time for other, more important activities, having included some gaming time at school.

Either way, Harvard doesn't seem like "geek land" so much now, does it?
