The Freezer 7 fits almost anywhere

Cooling specialist Arctic Cooling has just released its Freezer 7 series of low-profile processor cooling solutions. Due to its minimal height, the Freezer 7 is especially suitable for low-profile computer cases used in media center setups.

The cooler is built on Arctic Cooling's revolutionary heatsink design, which ensures proper CPU cooling at a minimal amount of aluminum heat spreaders. According to its technical specifications, the cooler's heatsink is 42-millimeter tall (53mm with the mounted fan) and weighs about 263 grams, which is half the size of a regular CPU cooler.

Despite its diminutive dimensions, the cooler performs flawlessly even when paired with a quad-core processor. However, it is alleged to work with LGA775 CPUs with a maximum thermal design power of 90W, which means that high-end quad-cores from Intel are out of discussion. The cooler sports two pure copper heatpipes and 40 aluminum fins on the heatspreader and ships with an 80mm fan with a fluid dynamic bearing for minimal noise levels.

PWM-enabled motherboards are able to control the fan's speed from a minimal value of 600 to a more aggressive count of 2,000 rotations per minute. Buzzing sounds are dramatically slashed, thanks to the bundled fan holder that acts as a damper and absorbs vibrations. Even when the fan spins at full speed, it still produces 66 percent less noise than a stock low profile Intel CPU cooler.

Moreover, the manufacturer ships the cooler with a pre-applied patch of Arctic Cooling's own silver-based thermal compound in the MX2 family. Unfortunately, only Intel customers will be able to enjoy a noiseless home theater experience, as the cooler is exclusively designed to work with LGA 775 processors.

The Freezer 7 low-profile CPU cooler will be available in mid-May for an estimative retail price of $27.95.
