Though there has been talk about Archos working on a set of Platinum tablets, nothing hinting towards that direction was rolled out. Until now when the company finally pulled out of the box three brand-new Platinum slates.

Archos CEO Loic Poirier introduced the new offerings by saying that “It is our intention to strengthen [our company] philosophy by directly challenging the current leading tablet brands with a high quality product that has the best specs and aesthetic design available at a lower price.”

“The combination of features and design of the 97b Platinum HD and 101 Platinum tablets will put them in front of the iPad 4 and Galaxy tab 3’s at a better price.”

Interesting enough Poirier thinks that the news slates can take the mighty iPad and we have to admit their design is a bit reminiscent of it. But what else?

Let’s take a little look on what they bring to the tablet. The Archos 80b comes with an 8-inch IPS display featuring a resolution of 1024 x 768, while the Archos 97b Platinum has a larger IPS display of 9.7-inch and a decent 2048 x 1536 resolution.

Last but not least, we have the Archos 101 Platinum, the largest of the bunch, which sports an IPS 10.1-inch screen and a resolution of 1280 x 800.

All three models pack an A9 1.6GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM under the hood. The machines will ship pre-loaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and 8GB of space. The standard tablet functionalities are also available like microSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB 2.0.

The slates are expected to be out and about as soon as this month, with the mention there’s no precise information about pricing yet.
