Archos has some decent tablets out there, but not the Neon products

Archos tablet fans, we have some news for you as the French manufacturer has pushed out a line of new slates, called the Neon.

The series is pretty similar to the Cobalt line, but naturally there are some hardware differences to be spotted.

Let start off with the first, Archos 90 Neon, which is the smallest in the bunch and comes equipped with a 9-inch screen. Bear in mind that Archos has designed this line for the low-end consumers, so don’t be shocked when we say the screen has the skimpy resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Furthermore, power comes from a quad-core (MTK?) A9 processor clocked at 1.4GHz combined with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (upgradable to 64GB) plus quad-core GPU.

The slate runs Android 4.2 out of the box and comes with a host of Archos Media Apps pre-installed, but there's no mention of a possible update to Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Archos 97 Neon obviously comes with a 9.7-inch display and boasts a more capable resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

Archos lists a quad-core processor (might be Rockchip 3188T) clocked at 1.6GHz combined with Quad-core Mali-400 GPU as being housed under the hood. As opposed to the previous model, the 97 Neon has a camera on the back (2MP plus the 0.3MP frontal), while the other specs remain unchanged.

Last but not least, the Archos 101 Neon offers relatively the same specifications with the 97 model, except that the unknown processor runs at 1.4GHz and the resolution has been decreased to 1024 x 600 pixels.

Another difference is that the 97 comes in white, while the 101 is available in black. Last but not least, the 101 has an HDMI output, which is not offered with the two other models in the Neon line.

Currently, Archos UK lists the 101 Neon tablet with a price of £149 / $245 / €181, which seems quite hilarious for what’s being offered here. You should probably take your money and invest it into something else.
