As the first in the Element line, it is shipped for free

For those who have been looking forward to a nice and big Android 4.0 tablet that sold cheap, Archos might have just the thing.

The 97 Carbon, which we mentioned as being ready to ship at the start of the month (July 2012), has indeed begun selling.

In fact, the shipping costs are precisely zero, which leaves prospective buyers free to spend only $249.99 on it. That's around 203 Euro.

The Archos store has all the info, but we'll list the most relevant bits here, starting with the screen.

The 97 Carbon measures 9.7 inches in diagonal and has a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels.

Also, the 1 GHz processor running the show is backed by 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of flash storage (plus a microSD memory card of up to 32 GB, if available).

As for connectivity and I/O, Archos tossed in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB and, for streaming 1080p video to TVs, an HDMI connector.
