Some time ago, NOAA announced that it would not grant the Georgia Aquarium permission to import 18 beluga whales from Russia.

PETA now claims that its involvement in the issue helped a lot, and influenced NOAA's decision.

According to Ecorazzi, the organization also believes that, but for Kim Basinger's also taking the time to protest the Georgia Aquarium's request, the outcome would have been an entirely different one.

“Kim Basinger’s heartfelt plea to NOAA on behalf of the 18 belugas who were cruelly torn from their families in Russian waters helped ensure that the agency made the right decision today to deny permits to import the animals for a life in small tanks at US amusement parks like SeaWorld,” PETA spokesperson Moira Colley reportedly said.

“PETA is grateful to her for helping see this campaign through,” she added.

Oddly enough, NOAA did not mention anything about PETA or Kim Bassinger when explaining its decision.

As reported at that time, it argued that it denied the Aquarium's request after carefully considering what would be best for the beluga whales.
