Aqua Connect Inc. has announced plans to optimize performance of Aqua Connect Terminal Server on the Mac Pro Server, following Apple’s decision to no longer offer the Xserve line of servers.

Last month, Softpedia reported that Apple was preparing to “transition away from Xserve”, according to the company’s PDF Xserve Transitioning Guide, which specifically stated that “Apple will not be developing a future version of Xserve.”

In short, the Xserve is getting discontinued.

A leader in Mac Remote Desktops Services, Aqua Connect believes that the discontinuation of the Xserve puts the Mac Pro Server at the forefront of Apple’s server technology.

Despite the fact that the Mac Pro Server provides features that are more suited for Mac terminal services and enterprise customers, the “solution” also brings some new challenges to the field, Aqua Connect said today.

As such, the company has begun development to optimize performance of their products on the Mac Pro Server.

It aims to provide enterprise customers with a greater user experience than what was possible on the Xserve, Aqua Connect said.

“When Apple decided to end production on the Xserve, we looked at this as an opportunity to optimize remote desktop services for the Mac Pro and Mac mini Server” said Renee Mehrian, Executive Vice President of Aqua Connect.

“After speaking with our enterprise division and customers, we were pleased to find that these organizations remained dedicated to the Mac platform and were planning on increasing their Mac OS X Server deployments regardless of what type of server hardware was available,” Mehrian added.

Aqua Connect acknowledges one aspect of the Mc Pro Server that makes it ideal for its Terminal Server deployments - the Mac Pro Server can house more processors and RAM than the Xserve line

“The increase in processing power and memory means that organizations have the ability to scale to more terminal services users than ever before on the Mac platform,” Aqua Connect explains.

The company doesn’t stop here, though. Its development team has begun to tap into the improved video card on the Mac Pro Server to enhance graphics and video acceleration in remote sessions, according to the official report issued today.

“While you lose the density of the Xserve, the Mac Pro Server offers better value when considering processing capacity per dollar spent” said Joseph Cohen, Chief Technical Officer of Aqua Connect.

“The fact that a Mac Pro Server can scale to approximately 1.5 times an Xserve demonstrates the increased scalability and evolution of the Mac server platform.”

Aqua Connect is featuring its Mac Pro Server Guide on the company’s official website, where a Mac Pro Server Guide is ready for those who may want additional answers regarding the challenges that the new server line presents in the enterprise and data centers.
